undeck the halls

xmastree.jpg

on her walk with the dog yesterday, ann counted not one, not two, but thirteen dead christmas trees that have done their line of duty this season. the in-your-face reminder inspired ann and dabney to de-tree their apartment and now it's as if christmas never happened.

why is always so much more fun to decorate a tree versus take it down? ann supposes it's like the packing/unpacking dilemma; the impending excitement gives everyone the wherewithal to throw their clothes in a bag. Packed bags have a tendency to stick around ann and dabney's apartment for weeks after a trip. it's no wonder ann's latest harebrained idea is to start a business for lazy folks who don't want to bother with packing each and every ornament, unwrapping the lights, and storing away the remnants of the season. she's even come up with some possible business names: "tannenbaum, be gone," "un-deck the halls," etc.

I dread the needles all over the place when you take a tree down. They take forever to clean up. Which is why ours is still up. Tonight! I will take down the tree! G-d*mmit!

Dayum! Jan. 9 is late to take down a tree! There was a superstition in my family that the tree had to be down my Jan. 1 to avoid bad luck in the New Year! I guess we were the only family who believed that...
