evan hecox & incase
i've long admired evan hecox's work. i just wish i could afford one of his original prints. until then, i might just have to settle for one of his macbook pro sleeves.

turning forever 29 in the city
i can't even begin to tell you how many times i've attempted to write this post, but only to be thwarted by the stolen internet gods.
instead, i will just post some pics and captions from my wonderful week in nyc. all taken by my space phone.

thanks to a recommendation from our very own "roncierge," we stayed an airport-themed hotel. (i should known this would be his recommendation, he who lives by frequent flyer miles alone.) we checked in via kiosks, had our luggage man-handled by a robot, and slept in rooms inspired by tiny japanese capsule hotels.

the room was perfectly appointed. however, my only complaint - the beds could have been a wee bit more cushy. obviously, their fold-up capacity was chosen over comfort. on night #2, tired and sweaty, the bed didn't matter much. i slept like a baby.

in love with all things japanese, we spent the better half of one 100+ degree day in bookstore kinokuniya. i wanted to walk home with all these edition paume photo books. they even have a series on creative couples and their live/work spaces. AAHHHHHH!

i swore to myself that i wanted to get to all the types of foods and shops not available in st. louis. not much of a challenge really.

hello - korean food with my favorite korean.

above, the tuck shop where i can pretend to be one with my first lesbian crush, olivia newton-john, and eat meat pies. insert joke here.

mario batali and joe bastianich's eataly. this picture says it all really. loved it. wish we had one in missouri. bah.

my crappy picture of the super-fabulous high line. wow. makes me wish and hope for st. louis' forgotten industrial spaces. mayor slay, visit the high line pronto.

not only does the high line have one biergarten, it has two. above, the temporary (i think) lot biergarten run by colicchio & sons. beer was a key ingredient in my surviving the bloody hot days in the city. and thank god, biergartens seem to be in vogue in nyc these days.

oh man, talk about a load of fun. i really was laughing until i was crying. see it, if you can manage to get a ticket. (thanks, dabney, for your superior forethought.)

i really can't say enough about the alexander mcqueen show at the met. it was awe-inspiring and moving. and if you are one of those fuddyduddies that think fashion has no place in an art museum, you are f***ing wrong, and this is the show that will prove it.
i really wasn't suppose to take any pics inside, but i had no idea until it was too late. i swear there were others doing it, too.

last, but certainly not least, i got to see some old friends and that in my opinion doesn't happen nearly often enough.

we had some delicious food and then sweated it out... in a biergarten.

cross your fingers
dabney and i have been absolutely obsessed with the possibility of winning this year's hgtv dream home, which just happens to be located in dabney's home state of vermont. we are so bound and determined to have one of our names be plucked out of the virtual hat that we've been entering twice a day everyday for over a month now
check this sucker out! that mudroom, the hot tub, the master bath, the SKI DORM!!! this place is all blinged out.
cross your fingers for us, folks. if we win, YOU ARE ALL INVITED!

moped envy

four of our good friends here all have old-school mopeds. frankly, it's gotten me to take notice and perhaps search on craigslist a bit.
just sayin'.

decal dream
it's not that the coroplast on our windows isn't cutting it. actually, it works great.
but wouldn't something like this be much more fun?

via dwell
i am fantasizing about a cloud scene on our storefront windows. not only would it provide privacy, it would eliminate the need (notice: i didn't say "desire") for artwork in our big room all together. plus, it would be art that could be seen from the inside and out. I WANT! I WANT!
anyone know any vinyl decal artists?

mid century galore
while this song is good and all, it's really about the neato eye candy, in the form of fifties furniture and gadgets, that thrills me.

presidential wrestling poster
all this thrift shopping has got me thinking about what kind of stuff will be valued in the future. and i can't help but think that the amazing items and art that the obama campaign has inspired in the DIY community will be collectible someday - no matter what the outcome of the election will be (no i didn't say that - he WILL win). so over the next couple of days, i intend to highlight some of my favorites starting with...
from the talented folks at yeehaw industries, comes this fantastic letterpress election poster. click to embiggen.

chandeLEER

i am in love with this chandelier. so pretty. so delicate.
hundreds of individual iridescent swarovski crystals make up each flower. i bet it's amazing in person and alit.

created by dutch designer tord boontje, the blossom chandelier can be yours for a mere $37,500. the one pictured above hangs in gwyneth paltrow's dining room. color me jealous. i hate you, gwyneth (though i'll probably read your new lifestyle website anyway).
the chandelier reminds me a lot of the paper cherry blossoms that some genius set decorator created for the movie "lost in translation." dabney and i searched in vain for look-alikes while traveling through japan in 2004. instead, we tried to make our own.

sigh.
