easy come, easy go
that nano i won earlier this summer? it's no longer mine. i posted that puppy on craigslist at 6 pm last night. within two hours, it sold.
proceeds to go towards a new purchase... more soon.

summer perfection
it was a wonderful summer. there was much hiking, tubing, and swimming - enough to keep two girl scouts like us (and anyone who visited us) busy all season.
not only did we discover a new swimming hole, dabney unearthed a talent for bowhunting. 3 shots = 3 hits.
we caught up with friends...
...hosted a wedding.
...and between us and our friends, we ate our body weight in maple creamies.

just when i thought i had seen it all...
L.L. bean, or as i knew it growing up "L. bean bean," finally incorporates a look other than mom jeans and duck boots.
get this: LL bean skinny jeans!
not that this look is at all cutting edge anymore (in fact, i hope it's on its way out - waaay out), but it is an effort to fashion forward versus fashion stagnant.

article on edible souvenirs
this recent article in the ny times on buying edible souvenirs resonates with me. in fact, dabney and i spent most of yesterday packing up the station wagon with bottles of craft beer, hard cider, and maple syrup for our ride home back to the midwest. if only cheese could survive the trip!
those who know me well often bring delicious edibles when they visit - smoked salmon, kona coffee, cajun peanuts, jars of special jams... YUMMMMMM
my dad always brings me jars of pickled green tomatoes from my favorite hometown restaurant. that stuff makes any kind of fish sing.
what this article doesn't cover are the tricks and illegal risks it takes to get the most delicious stuff back from overseas. every year, my mother and aunt risk life and limb to bring a little bit of home back from manila. i don't know what their secret is, but they've never been caught. knock on wood.

peanut
have i mentioned that my parents got a new dog?
at first, i was against the idea. a) they have very little time to devote to a dog. b) with past dogs, training was something that was simply beyond them (see reason "a").
then, i got this picture in my email the other day.
i may eat my words - my newly semi-retired father just may turn out to be the perfect dog owner.
